10 September,2024

The Vaccines Injecting Hope Exhibition was inaugurated at Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum, Bangalore in the august presence of Shri Chandru Iyer, British Deputy High Commissioner; Sir Ian Blatchford, Executive Director, Science Museum Group, London; Dr. B Venkatraman, Chairman, Executive Committee, VITM & Former Director, IGCAR; Dr. Pragya Yadav, Scientist, ICMR - National Institute of Virology, Pune; Shri Samarendra Kumar, DDG, NCSM, and Shri K. Sajoo Bhaskaran, Director, VITM, Bengaluru, on September 10, 2024, and will be on display at the centre till February 28, 2025.

A Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) bus was flagged off during the inauguration, which will travel to nearby areas, spreading the exhibition's message, particularly in rural areas. This initiative strengthens the partnership between India's and UK's leading science museum networks. The MSE bus is designed to communicate the exhibition's key messages to a wider audience, promoting science awareness and education

Conceptualized by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) in collaboration with Science Museum Group, London, and supported by Wellcome, UK, ICMR, British Council India, and other Indian research organizations, the exhibition presents a comprehensive narrative on the global quest to develop vaccines at pandemic speed. Through six distinct sections - 'The Arrival of New Virus', 'Designing a New Vaccine', 'Trials, Results and Approvals', 'Scaling Up and Mass Production', 'Vaccine Rollout', and 'Living with COVID' - the exhibition delves into the scientific principles underlying vaccine creation and efficacy, while providing a nuanced understanding of the rapid development, production, transport, and delivery processes. Furthermore, the exhibition features 'Through The Lens', a thought-provoking artwork commissioned by the British Council, created through a collaborative effort between Indian sculptor Sushank Kumar and London-based playwright Nigel Townsend, which explores the complex and evolving relationship between humans and vaccination, both historically and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The exhibition was initially inaugurated at the National Science Centre, Delhi, on November 15, 2022 and was on display there till June 18, 2023. The exhibition was further inaugurated at Raman Science Centre & Planetarium, Nagpur on August 5, 2023, and was on display there till December 31, 2023. The Exhibition was inaugurated at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on February 10, 2024 and was on display at NSC, Mumbai, till June 28, 2024.

The Exhibition will further travel to Science City, Kolkata and stay till September 2025. The exhibition intends to help people understand, development, delivery, and role of vaccines in saving human lives.
