Inauguration of Regional Science Centre, Kottayam, Kerala

The Regional Science Centre, Kottayam was inaugurated on July 3, 2025, by Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, in the presence of Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Union Minister for Culture and Tourism.

Under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS), the science centre was conceptualized, designed, and developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Its establishment was made possible through a joint financial contribution of ₹1,450 lakh by the Government of India and the Government of Kerala.

Key Components of the Science Centre

The Regional Science Centre comprises two main blocks—the Exhibition Block and the Office Block—connected by a covered walkway leading from the entrance porch. Both blocks are constructed using framed RCC structures and feature Kerala-style sloping roofs finished with pre-coated GI sheets. The walkway and porch ceilings are adorned with artistic installations inspired by Malabar art culture.

The Exhibition Block houses the Fun Science Gallery, 3D Hall, and Open Exhibition Area on the ground floor, while the first floor includes the Emerging Technology Gallery, Marine Science Gallery, and Kids’ Play Corner.

The Centre features three major galleries, a dedicated children’s area, and several learning and engagement spaces, including:
