A gallery titled ‘Black Diamond: Unveiling the Depths’, was inaugurated at the National Science Centre, Delhi, a unit of National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, on October 17, 2024, by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, and Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, MoS for Coal and Mines, in presence of other dignitaries. This gallery has been developed with support from the Ministry of Coal, Govt. of India.
The gallery offers a captivating exploration of coal’s formation, mining, and reclamation processes. Visitors can experience immersive exhibits, including a simulated coal mine descent, a Dragline Simulator, and advanced coal exploration techniques. Highlights include the ‘Kayakalp’ diorama, showcasing Coal India Limited’s eco-friendly reclamation efforts, and a tribute to the Raniganj Mining Rescue Operation. Combining technology and storytelling, the gallery dispels myths about coal mining, promotes sustainability, and fosters scientific curiosity, emphasising coal’s pivotal role in India’s energy landscape and growth.
