The second phase of the gallery "Lost at Sea", titled "Existing in the midst of extinction", was inaugurated by Dr. Sangita Mitra, Director, WWF-India, West Bengal State Office at the Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata on November 14, 2025 (Children's Day).
This new gallery offers a crucial information into the history and current crisis of marine life. It features a striking 25-foot display of animals, like a baby blue whale, and uses augmented reality to bring extinct species back to view. Interactive stations let visitors design their own fish in a virtual "Line to Life" aquarium. The exhibits highlight vital ocean processes, such as nutrient cycling, and present stark data on threats like warming and acidification. By showcasing creatures that are living, endangered or already lost forever, the gallery creates a powerful, immersive experience with the urgent need to protect our oceans.
