क्षेत्रीय विज्ञान केंद्र और तारामंडल, कालीकट में आयोजित 'कोरोनावायरस पर अंकुश' पर पैनल चर्चा

A Panel Discussion on “Curbing Coronavirus” was organised by RegionalScience Centre & Planetarium, Calicut, a unit of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), on February 10, 2020. Noted doctors and specialists who have first-hand experience in containing it were invited.

Dr. A. S. Anoop Kumar, Consultant, Department of critical medicine, Baby Memorial Hospital, Kozhikode, said that though the mortality rate was only around 2%, the number of dead people could be higher as the number of infected patients were in thousands.
Concurring with this, Dr. Asma, Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Hospital, Manjeri, said it was yet to be proved if a person without symptoms could spread the infection. She also explained the mathematical progression of spreading.
Dr. Sheela Mathew, Prof. & HOD Dept. Infectious diseases explained the Modalities and intricacies of developing a preventive vaccine.
Dr. P. M. Anitha, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Government Medical College Hospital, Manjeri, spoke about the testing of body fluid samples of patients. Jane Paul, Head Nurse, Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, explained the infection control mechanisms being implemented in isolation wards.
Dr. K. P. Aravindan, former Professor and HOD Pathology, Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, moderated the session. He ruled out the viability of conspiracy theories about the disease posted on its social media platforms. 100 people participated in this programme.
