World Environment Day celebration at BITM, Kolkata

World Environment Day was observed at Birla Industrial & Technological Museum at Kolkata, a unit under National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India on June 5, 2014 with interactive programmes for school students and general public.


The events organized during the day are:


i.        Measuring Sound Pollution by Sound Level Meter


ii.       Sapling Distribution jointly organized by Friends of Trees, Kolkata Chapter,


iii.    ‘Sit & Draw’ Competition on “You and Your Environment” for Classes V to VII & on “Your Environment and Climate Change” for Classes VIII to XII


iv.      Open House Quiz on ‘Environment’.


 In the Sit & Draw’’ competition junior level, Bishanka Seal, South Point High School, class VII stood first followed by Sandipa Kayal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Command Hospital and Abhikarsha Sil, South Point High School. In the senior level Indrakshi Haldar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Command Hospital VIII was the winner. Tranakshi Sen, Khanpur Girls' High School VIII was Second and Subhasish Sarkar, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Education, IX was adjudged third. Prizes were given to the winners by Prof. Biswapati Maity and Prof. Ajoy Ghosh of Govt. Art College.


Total 950 students from 53 schools participated in the day long programme on June 5, 2014 at BITM.
