World Environment Day (WED) Celebrations at RSC, Bhopal

Regional Science Centre, Bhopal in collaboration with Environmental Planning & Coordination Organisation (EPCO), Bhopal has commemorated World Environment Day by organising various activities during 3-5 June 2014.


On 3rd June 2014, a Drawing Contest was organised in which 108 students took part in three categories viz: Primary (Std.I to IV), Middle (Std.V to VIII) & High School (Std.IX to XII). The theme for the contest was ‘Nature’.


On 4th June 2014, the programmes were initiated with a film show on theme 'Chilka Lake'. The film was followed by a PPT presentation Contest on this year’s theme ‘Raise Your Voice Not The Sea Level’ in which 12 students (Std. VIII to XII) presented their PPT Presentations. A Popular Science Lecture was organised after PPT Contest which was delivered by Dr.Sangeeta Rajgir, President, Bhopal Birds. The theme for the lecture was ‘Birds in Madhya Pradesh, India’. In all 153 students took an advantage of this programme.


On 05 June 2014, activities were initiated with the launch of an Exhibition on "Medicinal Plants". Around 50 medicinal plants viz: Ashok, Ficus, Pipal, Aloe Vera, Tulsi, Amaltas, Shatavari, Mango, Pomegranate etc were on display along with the write up giving information about the medicinal uses of these plants. A plantation programme was also organised during which plants with medicinal value viz: Shami and Mango were planted in the Centre's premises. An Open House Quiz was also conducted on theme "Flora & Fauna in India". The Quiz was followed by a Popular Science Lecture on theme "Prospects & Constraints in Environmental Protection” & was delivered by Dr. C. P. Shrivastava, Ex-Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Bhopal. Around 150 students and general public attended the programme. Dr.Sanjeev Sachdev, Chief Scientific Officer, EPCO, Shri Pradip Sharma, Chief Scientific Officer, EPCO & Shri Prabal Roy, PC, RSC, Bhopal were prominently present on the occasion. All these dignitaries have given away the certificates and prizes during Prize Distribution and valediction function of the programme.
