THE LARGEST NETWORK OF SCIENCE CENTRES/MUSEUMS IN THE WORLD

National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous society under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India was formed on April 4, 1978. Today, it administers 26 Science Centres/Museums spread all over India.

NCSM has developed its own Nationwide network of 26 Science Museums/Centres. Among 26 centres, divided into North, South, East, North East and West Zones, there are 6 National Level Centres namely Science City, Kolkata, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata, Nehru Science Centre (NSC), Mumbai, Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM), Bengaluru, National Science Centre (NSC), Delhi and Central Research & Training Laboratory, Kolkata.

Mobile Science Exhibition

Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) are basically science exhibitions on buses based on various themes of science and technology. Mobile Science Exhibition is an attempt of NCSM to communicate science in rural areas.

Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, has taken a drive to launch 25 MSE buses in 2019-20 in the Aspirational Districts of India. The Govt. of India aims to uplift the districts which have shown relatively lesser progress in achieving key social outcome through a mass movement to quickly and effectively transform some districts named as ‘Aspirational Districts’.

Innovation Hub

An Innovation Hub is place which provides facilities to nurture new ideas and help develop inquisitive perspective in youths of today. The Innovation hubs created by National Council of Science Museums engage youth in innovative and creative activities.

These hubs serve as springboards for new ideas and innovation and thus helping the society and economy to face future challenges and meet rising aspirations of the growing population.Specifically, embedding such creative pedagogies in science education through Innovation ‘Hubs’ would have potential to retain talent in modern science.
